Erap's Manila Bus Bun Get Students, Workers from the South Mad

Finally, the streets of Manila was freed from overloading buses that tend to crowd the narrow lanes of the city. In its first ordinance passed, Joseph Estrada and his vice-mayor, Isko Moreno had implemented the Manila Bus Bun for buses which don't have terminals in Manila area.

The city ordinance was signed immediately and implemented July 23, Tuesday. Drivers, commuters especially students and workers get angry because the Manila traffic scheme affected a lot of people.

Many students got angry because they had to take three modes of transportation, instead of one or two and they have to pay more. This measure was authored by Manuel Zarcal, Manila city councilor and also the traffic management committee chairman.

The objective is to make Manila a traffic-free city and due to the high volume of buses congesting the streets, the ban was implemented.

While it draws positive feedback from Manila residents, consultation from affected sectors was not properly done prior to implementation.

Aren’t España, Quezon Blvd. and Taft Ave. national roads? A policy on inter-state road systems is to classify and maintain interconnecting roads as national roads under the jurisdiction of the national government to prevent precisely what Erap is now doing in Manila. ESBI SANTIAGO
